PATRON'S MESSAGE

KALAMKARI CENTRE SOCIETY was established in 1983 with the primary objective of enhancing literacy and vocational skills amongst women. The scope was enlarged to assist women in becoming self-employed, be aware of health issues & improve their communication skills etc. About 1000 women receive training p.a. in diverse fields such as Weaving (6 Months), Tailoring (6 Months), Vegetable Dyeing (6 Months), Bamboo Crafts (6 Months), Soft Toys (6 Months), Tie & Dye (6 Months), Batik (6 Months), Embroidery (6 Months), Mushroom Growing (6 Months), Teacher Training (1 Year), Fashion Designing (2 Years), Interior Decoration (3 Years), Computers (3 Years).

Some of these programmes have in the past been sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Women Development Corporation, Social Welfare Department, Jammu Urban Development Agency, and the long-term courses of 1-3 years duration by the All India Council For Technical Education and University of Jammu.

Today the Society employs near 100 staff members and runs a full-fledged College and Women's Hostel in approx. 30,000 sq. ft. of constructed area in a 2 acre Campus exclusively for Women.

We welcome any suggestions to further improve and enhance Women's empowerment.

Professor Varun Sahni (Vice Chancellor)MESSAGE FROM VICE-CHANCELLOR

I am pleased to learn that KCS College of Education(Women), Jammu is bringing out the third issue of the College magazine "Kalamkriti".

The University of Jammu is one of the India's premier research and teaching institutions and has been rated by NAAC as an "A" Grade University. I am happy that the KCS College of Education(Women) is also a NAAC accredited "A" Grade College. An "A" Grade University must necessarily consist of "A" or "B" Grade Colleges. It is therefore imperative that the affiliated Colleges of the University of Jammu strengthen their quality enhancement procedures.

I am sure that the College Magazine will provide a platform to the students to sharpen their writing talent and will strengthen the academic activities of the College.

I send my warm greetings and good wishes on the occasion.

Professor Rajiv Gupta (Director) COLLEGES DEVELOPMENT COUNCILMESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR, COLLEGES DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

I am happy to know that KCS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (WOMEN), PALOURA, JAMMU is bringing out its third issue of College Magazine "KALAMKRITI".

The College which has recently been reaccredited by NAAC and awarded "A" grade is imparting quality education to the students and I am sure students and faculty members would be expressing their views by contributing articles to the magazine.

I wish best of luck to the students and college management.

Mrs. Purnima Chaudhri (Chairperson)A WORD FROM THE CHAIRPERSON

Kalamkari Centre Society has been in the forefront to provide quality education to women since 1985. A Women's Polytechnic started in 1985 received outstanding response from students and courses were affiliated with State Board of Technical Education.

In 2000, a B.Ed. College exclusively for Women was started with an intake of 120 students and rapidly grew to an intake of 333 students by 2006. To cope with the increasing demand, a Hostel for Women was constructed on our 2-Acre Campus to accommodate 87 residents.

The college has been ISO 9001: 2008 certified and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with Grade"A" in the year 2009 under their updated stringent methodology post April 2007 which is the highest grade in the J&K state in both the Public and Private sector. The College is also running M.Ed. course. There are two libraries with blend titles of a value of over Rs.10 lacs. They are fully automated with bar-coding of books. They are linked to DELNET with Inter- library loan facility, through Internet. There are 5 e-classrooms with 65 computers, LCD screens and Multimedia projectors. There is Wi-Fi facility across the campus for easy access to internet. In addition to it, there are well equipped labs for science, psychology and a fifth generation interactive language lab. All the staff members and students are covered by Medical Insurance.

Since the college is completely committed to providing Quality Education in all respects, a Newsletter was started in 2005. Now the third issue of the College Magazine 'KALAMKRITI' is being published. No doubt the students and faculty will benefit from the magazine and contribute articles to make it a great success.

Dr. N.R Sharma (Professor & HOD)MESSAGE FROM PROFESSOR & HOD (M.Ed.)

It gives me immense pleasure to note that response to this issue of our College Magazine 'KALAMKRITI' has been overwhelming. The wide-spectrum of articles in different sections gives us a sense of pride that our students and teachers possess creative potential and original thinking in ample measures. Each article is entertaining, interesting and absorbing. I applaud the contributors for their stimulated thoughts and varied hues in articles contributed by them.

Commendable job has also been done by the Editorial Board in planning for and producing the magazine. My congratulations to the team who took the responsibility for the arduous task most effectively.

On this occasion, I seize the opportunity to bid a warm adieu to the outgoing batches of students on successful completion of their course of study. I am confident wherever our students will be placed shall work with passion, perfection and dedication.

Wishing you all the best in your ventures, efforts and careers.

Professor O.P Sharma (Principal)FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK (B.Ed.)

It is a matter of great pride and satisfaction for KCS COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (WOMEN) to bring out the third issue of the annual College Magazine 'KALAMKRITI'.

The College has made tremendous progress in all areas- academic, non-academics, capacity building relevant to staff and students. The College has achieved another milestone in getting Grade "A" by National Assessment and Accreditation council (NAAC) in the year 2009.

I am confident that this issue of College Magazine will send a positive signal to the staff, students and the persons who are interested in the educational and literary activities. A magazine is like a mirror which reflects the clear picture of all sorts of activities undertaken by the institution and develops writing skills among students in particular and teaching faculty in general.

I congratulate the Editorial Board of this magazine who have played wonderful role in accomplishing the task in record time.

I express my deep sense of gratitude to Mr. U .S. Chaudhri and Mrs. P.Chaudhri under whose guidance this literary work has been undertaken and completed within the stipulated time.

I am hopeful that this small piece of literary work shall not only develop the taste for reading among students but also develop a sense belonging to the institution as well
