KALAMKARI CENTRE SOCIETY started the scheme of Community Polytechnic in 1995 and is funded by Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Secondary and Higher Education) and implemented by NITTTR (National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research) Chandigarh. The main motive of scheme is to provide meaningful and qualitative training to non-formal trainees which should be competency based by qualified trainers in collaboration with highly qualified staff/faculty of the polytechnic. The main target of the scheme is rural youth, women, school drop outs, SC's, ST's, backward and weaker section of the society who are living life under poverty line. The main aim is to make people self-dependant mainly the Women Folk of the society to earn their bread and butter either self employment or through wage employment.

KALAMKARI CENTRE SOCIETY is a Registered Society (1983) under the Societies Registration Act. The main objectives of the Society are to empower women, both Urban and Rural with Education, Health, Skill Development & such like activities that would enhance their socio-economic well being. In 1985, a Women's Polytechnic was started for imparting knowledge in various trades like Textile Designing, Fashion Designing, Computers, Architecture & Interior Decoration and A.I.C.T.E. extended recognition and approval in 1993. The Polytechnic was affiliated with State Board of Technical Education in 1987.

The Society also undertakes programmes in Health & Family Welfare, Entrepreneurship Management & Development, Community Polytechnic and Free Medicines for Scheduled Castes. These programmes are sponsered by Government of India & supervised by the respective State Govt. Departments. The Polytechnic is located at a distance of 8 Kilometres from J&KSBOTE, Jammu in a two acre campus with 38,600 Sq. Ft. of constructed area. Amenities include a Hostel Canteen with Recreationl Facility, Generator facility, Filtered Cold Drinking Water and Convenience Rooms for staff & girls. A fully-fledged Library, Data Processing Centre, e-Classrooms, Computer Labs.,Science Lab., Language Lab. & Computer Rooms with state of art Computers & Peripherals are also available for the students.
